ARTIST BIO: Sandra (Sandi) Van Vorst email: [email protected]
Teaching is an Art and a Science. Art is an integral part of teaching.
I used art extensively when I taught. I have taught for 37 years plus in many capacities: from K through Baccalaureate degrees. It has been a wonderful career.
I live true to the expression, “Once a teacher, always a teacher.” I can’t get it out of my blood. Currently, in my retirement, I am on the Board of Trustees at Heathcote Botanical Gardens and my role is educational programs development. I am also the Education Director for the A.E. Backus Museum and Gallery, and on the Board for the Fort Pierce Art Club as Chair Person for Stitches of Love. Sprinkling and encouraging art in every area is a continuous seeding that I focus on. Mostly I use oil when painting…and fabric when sewing. LOL.
Knowing that Sewing is an Art form, FPAC is providing FREE sewing classes for youth. Our classes, STITCHES OF LOVE, are graciously hosted at the Indian River Presbyterian Church. The mission for this project is to inspire and demonstrate the joy and importance of stewardship for our community by having students donate their products to various agencies that serve needs of people who live in our neighborhoods. These classes are free and we are totally dependent upon donations and volunteers for this program to work. Interested in any capacity, contact me: [email protected] .
When not sewing, or painting, I love to garden. Just another way of creating.
