Fort Pierce Art Club History

The Fort Pierce Art Club, Incorporated was formed in 1955 originally under the name of the Fort Pierce Art League before changing its name to the Fort Pierce Art Club. Its first president was A. E. “Bean” Backus. It had a charter membership of thirty-five members. The club was incorporated as a Florida not-for-profit corporation in 1966.
The early history of the club was destroyed in a house fire. Eight (8) boxes of the club's history is now stored at the St. Lucie County Historic Museum.
The club's members are dedicated to bringing a greater awareness of art to the community and providing artists with an opportunity to show their artwork at a series of galley and sidewalk exhibitions. The organization also gives art lovers an opportunity for service and participation in art development.
The Fort Pierce Art Club voted on October 3, 1988 to rename the corporation and be known as “The Treasure Coast Art Association, Incorporate. In 2018, the new board decided to go back to the original name, Fort Pierce Art Club and focus on the Fort Pierce community.
The club holds workshops, events, and networks with other artists and organizations along the Treasure Coast and beyond.
